THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As part of the 60th year of India-Japan diplomatic relations, ‘Discover Japan Festival-2012’, a three-day cultural festival and industrial expo, will begin in the city on Friday. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will inaugurate the festival, jointly organised by Japanese Cultural and Information Centre, Alumni Society of AOTS and Terumo Penpol, at 5 pm on Friday at VJT Hall.
Chief Secretary K Jayakumar will preside over the function. Masanori Nakano, Consul General of Japan, Chennai, will deliver the keynote address.
Various organisations doing business with Japan will participate and exhibit their products and services. Cultural programmes, Origami Art Show, exhibition of Japanese dolls, handicrafts, Bonsai exhibitions, Ikebana (Japanese art of flower arrangement) competition, Japanese food festival, performance of traditional Karate Do Kobudo and Japanese film festival are the major highlights of the festival.
The Japanese film show will be held at 7 am on Friday. Women will be given training in traditional Karate Do Kobudo technique from 10 am to 12 noon on Saturday. Japanese food festival will be held between 4 pm to 8 pm on Saturday and Sunday.
