Lucknow: A simple message to the Uttar Pradesh Police and you could be richer by Rs 500 to Rs 10,000. The UP Police, which has earned a dubious distinction for failing to curb rising crime in the state, have now offered a Diwali bonanza to the people of the state.
Says DGP Uttar Pradesh, Vikram Singh, "If you give information on a crime or a criminal, we will make sure you are rewarded."
And the crime could be anything, from eve-teasing, to theft or even giving vital information about a gangster. The more important the information, the higher the reward.
The UP Police might exhaust its funds for this scheme in six months, but the public is all prepared to make the killing. The people of Uttar Pradesh are welcoming the scheme saying they should do their bit to support the police.
And call it image building or serious efforts to curb crime, the UP Police have already received 15 SMSes so far.
