New Delhi: Cricket fans would be hoping there would be fireworks after the Kotla cricket test.
Unfortunately, firecrackers may not be the best way to celebrate after all.
The damage done by Diwali is immense.
Every major metro crossed the permissible limit of respiratory suspended particulate matter (RSPM) 100 micrograms per millicube.
The RSPM are the extremely small particles that coat your lungs.
Mumbai was lowest at 144. Bengaluru next at 159. Kolkota was smoggier at 338. Chennai was the second most smoky at 379, two times more than it was last year.
Right on top by a long, long margin is New Delhi at a whopping 772 micrograms.
This is despite the fact that pollution levels in Delhi were in fact less than last year.
However, Delhi is still the smokiest city this Diwali.
