DLF hiding facts on Vadra deal, reply full of half-truths: Arvind Kejriwal

New Delhi: Anti-corruption activist Arvind Kejriwal has slammed real estate giant DLF's statement over corruption allegations against it and Congress President Sonia Gandhi's son-in-law Robert Vadra saying that the statement was "full of half-truths and lies".

"It is not a detailed statement. We will give a detailed response tomorrow. But the question is whether Vadra stands by DLF's statement or does he have his own response to give. We would appreciate his response," Kejriwal tweeted.

DLF had issued a clarification on its ties with Vadra after Kejriwal accused the latter of financial impropriety. In its statement, DLF said that the business relationship of the construction major with the husband of Priyanka Gandhi had been "completely transparent and at an arm's length basis".

Reacting to DLF\'s statement, Kejriwal questioned whether Robert Vadra stood by it or had his own response to give.

On Friday, ahead of his political campaign in New Delhi, Kejriwal and senior Supreme Court lawyer Prashant Bhushan had, in a major offensive against the Congress, accused DLF of giving an unsecured and interest-free loan worth Rs 65 crore to companies owned by Robert Vadra. According to Kejriwal and Bhushan, Vadra’s companies allegedly used that money to buy seven DLF flats worth Rs 35 crore for a rock bottom price of Rs 5 crore. The five firms that were used to buy the flats are allegedly owned by Vadra and his mother.

The Congress party, however, did not take much time in putting up a high-voltage defence with party president Sonia Gandhi herself issuing a brief statement claiming that her son-in-law is clean. "Robert Vadra is a businessman. His transactions are transparent and above board. There has been no misuse of either the office of the Gandhi family or any misuse by Vadra," said the UPA chairperson.

Later, speaking to mediapersons, Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni called them "baseless allegations by people who do not have any proof". "Everyone has the right to do own business. Robert Vadra is also a citizen of the country and he has the right to do any business," said the Congress leader.
