Chennai: Ties between the DMk and Congress have taken a beating as the Sri Lankan issue is straining relations. For the first time since the issue erupted recently, the Tamil Nadu Congress refused to show solidarity with it's Dravidian ally.
DMK braved the heavy rains to form a human chain to show their solidarity towards the Tamil cause
But what perhaps DMK cheif M Karunanidhi would have wanted is solidarity from his own allies and that was missing as the Congress party refused to hold hands with the DMK chief.
"I appreciate all the parties who came. I don't want to comment on the parties that couldn't make it."
The Tamil Nadu Congress has been with the DMK in it's protests against the war in Sri Lanka.
But with the issue heating up beyond a point and Jayalalithaa accusing parties like the DMK of using the Tamil cause as a garb to support the LTTE, the Congress high command has decided to distance itself from it's Tamil Nadu ally .
Inspite of the heavy downpour, DMK and its allies were on time to start the 60 km long human chain. Their message was very clear. Whether they have the support of all the other parties or not, they will continue to fight for the Tamil cause.
Now, the focus is on a Sri lankan delegation's visit to Delhi this Sunday.
