Chennai: The Election Commission has directed the Tamil Nadu DGP and Madurai District Collector to look into allegations that DMK leaders distributed money to voters in Madurai Lok Sabha constituency, where M K Azhagiri, son of Chief Minister M Karuanidhi is contesting Lok Sabha polls.
EC sources said Chief Electoral Officer Naresh Gupta had directed DGP K P Jain and Madurai District Collector P Seetharaman to look into the matter and put in place more effective measures in this regard.
The CPI(M), which is fielding P Mohan against Azhagiri, had alleged that the DMK has been distributing money and gifts to voters in the temple town.
Gupta refused to comment when asked for his reaction to the CPI-M's allegation and merely said the EC has to decide on the matter.
