New Delhi: Three days after Senior VHP leader and former BJP MP Ram Vilas Vedanti made a statement calling for the beheading of Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi, he now stands alone.

“The saints of Ayodhya would give gold equal to its weight to the man who beheads him,” Vedanti had said.

Both the VHP as well as the BJP have distanced themselves from the VHP leader’s position. But Vedanti himself is in denial mode.

However, he has stirred the political pot in Tamil Nadu. The DMK is now demanding immediate arrest of Vedanti on charges of criminal conspiracy and also speed up the Sethusamudram Canal Project.

It has also called a meeting of its allies on the issue on Sunday and a statewide bandh on October 1.

"The bandh and public meeting are being held so that this message reaches the ears of the Supreme Court and brings this issue to their attention,” said Karunanidhi.

TN Finance Minister K Anbazhagan added, “We demand that the Centre arrest Vedanti on charges of criminal conspiracy and inciting communal hatred.”

Ruling party supporters vented their anger at Vedanti's statement again on Monday.

“If you kill someone can you undo it? He has already spoken, so it can’t be taken back,” said Leader, Dalit Sena, Palanimuthu.

Meanwhile, the BJP has planned demonstrations in Tamil Nadu on Tuesday to protest attacks on its party office.
