New Delhi: The DMK has urged the UPA government to complete the Sethusamudram project without any further delay.
In a veiled warning to the Congress, the DMK administrative committee that met on Friday, passed a resolution saying,
The party is worried the Central government may delay or even shelve the project in vew of the controversies surrounding Ram Sethu, which Hindus believe was built by Lord Ram.
A resolution to this effect was adopted at the party administrative committee meeting chaired by party president and Chief Minister M Karunanidhi in Chennai.
The DMK alleged that communal and reactionary forces with ulterior motives were attempting to stall the Sethu project by propagating, what it called irrational and imaginary reasons.
The party demanded that the Centre bring a constitutional amendment to enable states to decide on the quantum of reservation.
The party also wanted that its allies should exercise restrain and stick to the coalition dharma by their constructive approach to keep the alliance intact.
The DMK urged the partners of the alliance not to fall a prey to the designs of forces inimical to the coalition.
