DMK-PMK alliance in Tamil Nadu in trouble

Cuddalore: The Dravida Munnettra Kazhagam (DMK)-Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) alliance in Tamil Nadu was a fragile alliance from the start and now it looks like it is about to end.

The calculated barb by PMK at all DMK initiatives and programme went just a little too far it seems.

The PMK's personal attack on DMK's R Veerasamya, A Raja and other local leaders has finally landed them in danger of being rejected from the alliance.

A PMK leader is alleged to have said that he will kill some senior DMK leaders due to a difference in opinion.

Many other DMK leaders are angry at the PMK's personal attack on them. They had petitioned DMK President and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi asking him to take action against the PMK before their anger erupted in violent way.

"It's ok if alliance partners criticise our politics but we want to show them they cannot make it personal. It is just not done by an alliance partner," a DMK leader says.

A normally calm Karunanidhi is now ready to take the plunge. Decision on DMK-PMK ending alliance will be taken on June 17.

"The leader has said that they will hold a meeting next week to decide on the alliance issue. We will wait until then," Rajya Sabha MP and Karunanidhi's daughter K Kanimozhi says.

Even without the PMK, the DMK coalition with Left and other Dalit parties will still have the majority to remain in power.

The PMK has chosen to remain silent preferring to wait and watch the outcome of the meeting scheduled for this week.
