Bangalore: DNA tests and forensic tests have confirmed that BPO employee Pratibha Murthy was raped and murdered, a trial court was told on Friday.
The prosecution will use the reports as vital evidence because cab driver Shivakumar, the prime accused in the case, has claimed before the court that he was forced to confess killing Pratibha.
Shivakumar told the court on January 2 that Girish Babu, his supervisor in a travel company, murdered Pratibha on December 13, 2005.
Pratibha's body was discovered near Bangalore three days later and her murder outraged the city.
The BPO industry announced new security measures—particularly on transportation—for employees after her murder.
In a related development, the court on Wednesday objected to the 'trial by media' in the case. Judge K Sukanya warned police officials, defence and prosecution lawyers not to allow witnesses and the accused speak to the media.
