Mumbai: The night of terror sealed a bond between estranged couple Dr Tilu and Prashant Mangeshkar. On the fateful night of 26/11 the two along with their 21year old daughter Kalinda were at the Taj hotel attending a close friend's cocktail party, where the horror began.
“The hotel staff said go, so I had my daughter by my hand and I went straight and they fired straight at us. We barely walked a metre and a half and they fired straight at us and then turned around I pushed her and my husband got her and I said everyone get down they are firing at us but one guy behind me got shot,” says Dr Tilu Mangeshkar.
“For me this was a terrible time because at 0130 hrs IST after the aborted bid of our escape and the flight from the bullets and the saga that unfolded after that I did not think that we would get out of there alive,” recalls Dr Prashant Mangeshkar.
With only each other for company, the doctor couple along with their daughter did what they thought was best. If they could not escape, at least they would help the injured hostages at the Taj hotel.
“We examined this guy and we found that there was a big hole in front of his stomach and so we put that back with no gloves. We used our hands and packed it and tied a sheet around it and gave him a pain killer which one of the foreigners had,” says Tilu.
Facing terror together we managed to get the couple to forget their plans to separate despite having filed for divorce.
“We had very difficult times, my wife and I. Over the last couple of years, I hope she is listening to me and bare with me. My papers were even in a court of divorce and they are already filed and soon to be separated out and this thing has bought us back together,” says Prashant.
