Surat: Anju, a young woman in her mid-twenties who doesn't remember anything about her past and speaks fluent English, was found on a street in Surat a year ago.
An unknown man took her to hospital and later tried to sell her off for a meagre Rs 500. But Dr Jaya Amipara, who was treating Anju bailed her out.
"Anju came to my house with a couple claiming to be her parents. Later on I came to know that the man was trying to sell her for Rs 500. I immediately informed the police and chased away the goons who had come to take her away. I have kept her and am trying to locate her parents. Police are also investigating," says Dr Jaya.
Anju is suffering from amnesia and doesn't remember anyone or any incident of her past. But after media took up her case, one Buje Gowda from Mumbai claimed that Anju is actually his estranged wife Vanita Gowda.
Buje also claims that she is the mother of his 14-year-old daughter. However, Anju neither remembers being married to the man nor does she remember that she has a kid.
"I can't remember that I have a husband and a child. Even though he claims but I don't remember anything. He is not my husband. I won't go anywhere unless my memory comes back," says Anju.
Anju is like a prisoner without a face, in a cell within herself. While her attempts to remember her past have failed repetitively, her saviour couple the Amipara's vow to keep Anju with them till her identity is established and she remembers her past herself.
