Mumbai: Around 22 people died of swine flu in and around Mumbai.
Of these two were men and 13 women of which three were pregnant.
The Bombay Municipality Corporation (BMC) says pregnancy, diabetes and hypertension are high risk categories as was seen in quite a few of these women.
Lack of nutrition in women is also a factor that adds up to the risk of falling prey to swine flu.
“Sixty per cent of the women I see are anemic,” says General Physician, Sr Sudhir Adarkar.
Experts say there’s no data to suggest if women are more or less vulnerable to swine flu than men.
However, a committee of doctors from civic hospitals are studying the case histories of the women who have died to come to a definite conclusion.
