Buxar (Bihar): The dogs in front of the Kali temple in Buxar are not howling, they are praying and villagers say they have been following this ritual for the past 40 years.
Just as the devotees blow the conch before the evening prayer, the dogs get ready to participate in the prayers.
“Everyday these dogs come in dozens for the evening prayers at the temple,” said the priest, Aditya Pandey.
Surprisingly, no one has trained them to do so and after the prayer session, they patiently wait for the prasad.
“We come here to see this amazing spectacle of dogs taking part in the evening prayers,” said a visitor, Ramashray Prasad.
Devotees at the temple for the first time are awestruck with the dogs barking completely in sync with the sound of drum beats and the conch.
“We have never heard of such a thing and we have come from quite a distance to see it for ourselves,” said another visitor Diwakar Singh.
With the way it is going, the devotion of these dogs is not likely to die down.
