Bhubaneswar: Former Odisha Law Minister Raghunath Mohanty and his wife have been arrested from Kolkata in connection with a dowry case. The ex-minister and his wife are accused by his daughter-in-law of dowry and harassment.
The BJD leader had resigned as the Law Minister of the state after dowry allegations were made against him. Mohanty had gone absconding and was not seen in public since he resigned.
The Opposition Congress and BJP had alleged that Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik was delaying Mohanty's arrest. They protested outside the Chief Minister's office last week.
Raghunath's anticipatory bail had been rejected by the Odisha High Court last week. A dowry case was filed against Raghunath Mohanty by his daughter-in-law Barsha Sony Mohanty.
In her complaint at the Balasore police station, she alleged that she was physically and mentally abused by her in-laws for dowry a few days after her marriage in June 2012. She alleged that her in-laws demanded Rs 25 lakh and a Scorpio car from her family.
