New Delhi: In a new twist to the kidney racket, Dr Upendra has reportedly told Moradabad police that Amit was close to several high profile people including several politicians.
In a fresh revelation in the multi-crore-kidney racket investigation, Moradabad police say that Dr Upendra has admitted that the racket was busted in the nick of time.
Upendra reportedly said that Amit, the suspected kingpin, was planning to wind up his operations and settle in Toronto in Canada very soon.
Police say Amit, an A and C grade film actor, financier, real estate agent and fixer, managed to avoid arrest by carrying out favours for powerful people.
Police sources have also told CNN-IBN that three Turkish nationals had died during the kidney transplant operations carried out by the suspected kingpin Amit.
A man named Mehmood had died in October 2003, and two men named Ahmed and Ismat had died in 2005.
They were later taken to the hospital where Dr Upendra, another of the doctors involved used to work. The deaths were allegedly declared to have happened due to cardiac arrests.
“Dr Upendra has taken name of several influential people including, VIP's and bureaucrats. They have done kidney transplants of their relatives for free of cost,” says Manjil Saini.
The Moradabad police is trying to verify Dr Upendra's shocking claims. Upendra has reportedly said that the network was run almost in a corporate manner.
The network spread across foreign hospitals, with doctors from Australia, Canada, Turkey and Greece acting as touts
“All the hospitals were near the airports so that the foreigners would face less trouble,” says Manjil Saini.
The police authorities are now planning to send a team to Nepal and Toronto for further investigation.
