Udaipur: In an unusual incident, a 55-year-old lady was rescued after remaining stranded for four days in a flood hit village of Udaipur Rajasthan.
Somu Rawat, a resident of Kanthodi village was stranded in her house when floods water submerged the entire village.
The district administration sent rescue teams to evacuate people by a motorboat, but Rawat was at a far-flung hamlet and help could not reach her due to extremely bad weather.
“As soon as the weather got cleared we flew in to save the woman, the district magistrate of Salumber was in contact with us through the wireless with whose help we could locate her house. We reached there and rescued the woman safely; her husband has also been located,” District Collector, Shikahar Agarwal, Udaipur.
Rawat says, the four days that she spent in a submerged house with no food and water were like a nightmare. The water level rose with each passing day and she panicked to see no signs of help from anywhere. A chopper rescued her finally on Monday, four days later.
She recalls her hellish experience, marooned on an island on Jaisamand Lake, with nothing but a dog for company.
“There was this dog, I would look at it and it would look at me. Whatever food I had I shared with the dog,” said Rawat.
She is now grateful to the rescue teams for saving her life.
