NAYAKANAHATTI (CHITRADURGA DT): The compound wall constructed to protect the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO)  lands collapsed owing to the recent rain in the future science city at Kudhapura in the district.
The accident came to light when some local people reported it on Monday.
This incident has raised questions about the quality of materials used to construct premier institutions of national importance. The six-foot wall was made of boulders, iron and cement.
Last week, the district received nearly 70 mm rain, the highest recorded in recent days.  DRDO owns about 4,000 acres on both sides of the Srirangapatna-Bidar state highway 19.
Dodda Ullarthy Kariyanna, a Communist leader,  said: “If this is the quality of construction, what will be the status of the science city? A detailed inquiry should be ordered into the incident.”
