Nedumbassery (Kerala): The second Maruti Suzuki Monsoon Car Rally was flagged off from Nedumbassery in Kerala on Saturday.
The event, where drivers are required to cover a certain distance within a specified time, will run through Idukki, Kottayam and Ernakulam districts over two days.
Approved by the Motorsports Association of India the rally will be run under three categories: professionals, novices and ladies.
“We formed a ladies group named as Formula 4 and we are participating in the general categories. I also participated in the last year. This time my husband was driving,” says a participant, Minu Soji John.
Aimed at promoting monsoon tourism, the cars after covering Idukki and Kottayam districts will run on the coastal route before winding up at Nedumbassery.
“We took part in professional categories. This is the second event that we have come for the Monsoon rally. Normally we come to enjoy the monsoon in Kerala. Last time we finished as fifth, but this time we want to become the first,” says a participant, Pradheep.
Apart from the speed it is the rain that excites most.
“We have taken part the Himalayan Rally last year also. I think this weather here the monsoon are some thing different here in this particular Rally. I think the driving in the rain be a challenging,” says another participant, Sanjay Agarwal.
