Drug racket run by jail inmate's wife busted

New Delhi: A drug racket apparently being run by a lady who took instructions from her husband in Tihar Jail has been busted on Monday.

A Nigerian female Nnyani was arrested while accepting a consignment of four kilogram of heroin from a woman Anju Tewari and her relative Rakesh Tewari in the Capital's Uttam Nagar Area.

The cost of the drug is priced approximately at Rs four crore. The narcotics control bureau also seized thirty thousand US dollars from Anju's house, which they say was the payment for an earlier consignment.

“We have arrested them after a long period of surveillance. They have been arrested under the narcotic and psychotropic substances act and have been sent into judicial custody,” says Narcotics Head, Sandeep Mittal.

Officials say that this racket was masterminded by a man called Kishan Kumar Tiwari, an under trial, who has been lodged in Tihar jail since 2006 on charges of Kidnapping.

Kishan was carrying out his operations from jail and was assisted by his wife Anju who would visit him often. They also say that this particular consignment of heroin has been smuggled from Afghanistan.

“She used to go and meet him in jail and he use to tell her who to go and meet and when to meet. This is how the syndicate worked,” says Sandeep Mittal.

According to jail authorities Kishan Kumar Tiwari can talk to visitors like any other prisoner and if he is masterminding a drug racket in the Capital by passing on information to his relatives then that is something they cannot do anything about.

This only proves that as long as person is in contact with the outside world, even a high security prison cannot stop illegal activities.
