New Delhi: In a case that has put the spotlight on how vulnerable new age technology can be to criminal misuse, the narcotics Control Bureau raided a Noida based BPO, R Mantra and arrested two for smuggling banned drugs to the US.

The owner of the call center, Kartikey Singh along with Vishal Mittal, editor of a local news channel in the NCR were allegedly involved in a drug trafficking racket. On Saturday, Vishal and accomplice Manishwar Thakur were arrested for supplying drugs to the United States on orders reportedly placed with the company over the internet.

Sources say it was a tip off by the courier company that helped nab two of the accused in the case. However, Kartikey is still absconding.

“We intercepted a parcel carrying 11.5 kgs of various drugs,” says Zonal Director, NCB, Sandeep Mittal.

These drugs are available over the counter with a doctor's prescription, however export, import and trans-shipment of these drugs is strictly prohibited under the law.

The NCB says owner Kartikey has been shipping off these highly addictive drugs for over a year now.

“We have busted a similar Internet pharma case in Kolkata,” says Sandeep.

However, with such incidents, it has become crucial for the authorities to keep a close check on the call centers.
