Reports say that on Sunday evening Ankur was drinking with his friends Dinesh, Mohit, Bunty and Govind when they decided to take the party to a samosa stall.
A small argument over who should have the samosa first angered the other drunk friends into mercilessly beating Ankur. Dinesh then reportedly drove his bike over him. Ankur was rushed to the hospital but he was declared dead upon arrival.
"Babu alias Ankur, who was about 20-years-old died during a scuffle with people known to him,” said DCP, East District, Ajay Chaudhary.
The police have arrested Dinesh and are on the lookout for the other three. Also a case has been registered under section 304 for culpable homicide. But the family wants it converted to a murder case.
The family insists the police are trying to shield the accused.
"The police by not registering a murder case is doing injustice to us. We want justice," said Ankur’s brother, Sandeep Gupta.
The Police however say the charges in the case can be changed only after the postmortem report establishes the cause of death, which might take a week.
