New Delhi: Life couldn't have been crueler to Lal Singh. What started off as summer vacation ended on a tragic note for Singh when a call centre employee, who was allegedly drunk, ran his car over Singh's children near Sangam Vihar on Monday. The incident occurred when the 22-year-old young man lost control of his car.
Six-year-old Sonu and three-year-old Ankit succumbed to their injuries within hours. And Singh now says this ghastly incident could have been covered up by the police, but for the media. Nearly 10 years after the BMW hit-and-run case, it seems officials have learnt no lessons.
"When we went to the police station, they shooed us away and even threatened to kill us. It was only after the media people came that they registered the FIR," Lal Singh alleges.
Darpan Malik, the 22-year-old man involved in the accident, was granted bail on a personal bond of Rs 25,000.
"While I was cremating my children, he was let off on bail," Singh says. He is, however, determined to see to it that justice is done in this case.
Singh says he won't settle for anything less than death for Darpan. "I want to see him hanged," Lal Singh declares. Singh is yet to inform his wife about the death of their children. And that's a moment he dreads the most.
