Gurgaon: Corporate executives in Gurgaon on their way to Chandigarh to fight a fresh battle and this time profit is far from their minds. They are leading the charge of local residents against illegal dumping of garbage at Gurgaon-Faridabad road.
Cricketer Yuvraj Singh's mother, Shabnam Singh says, "Yuvi almost got dengue two years back. There is poor infrastructure in Gurgaon, no sewage and now stench from the garbage."
Director Support Services Publicis India, Vivek Anand adds, "We are all going to Chandigarh to fight for our cause."
The residents, fed up with the indifferent attitude of the Gurgaon administration had filed a writ petition against illegal dumping, in the Punjab and Haryana High Court, to do away with all the dumping activities from the present site.
A resident of the area, Sunil Jhaveri says, "We have been assured that within four months, the garbage site will be re-located."
The present garbage disposal site is spread over 60 acres and is a protected forest land. Its also just 800 meters of the DLF residential area. Though an alternate site in Bhadwari village has all the required clearance, the municipal corporation of Gurgaon is yet to use it.
