New Delhi: When it comes to Durga pua, where would you rather be? - At home with family and friends or would you rather go pandal-hopping.
It's puja time at the Guha Rays' residence. For this Bengali family settled in Delhi, Pua at home began as an impulsive decision three years ago. But today, it's almost turning into a tradition.
Shantanu Guharay, who is a journalist, says, “I lost my mother six years ago and having a puja at home is like bringing my mother home."
The couple ends up spending more than a month's salary on the celebrations. But just across the road is this community puja and its budget is a whopping Rs 20 lakh. A 19-foot pandal, hi-tech security, a variety of food stalls and cultural programmes and keeping the cash flowing in are corporate biggies who sponsor the event.
Big money and bigger entertainment - the crowd is not complaining. But Shantanu swears by the little celebration at home.
"I have participated in community pujas while growing up. Home puja gives me immense satisfaction," Shantanu adds.
Be it a home puja or a big community puja - it all centres around her. Durga puja is for people from all walks of life. Yes, sometimes religion does bring together.
