New Delhi: Actor Sanjay Dutt, who has been sentenced in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case under the Arms Act, will remain out of jail on a legal technicality for at least another month, his lawyer said on Wednesday.
Dutt began serving his sentence on July 31 but walked out on bail about three weeks later.
He appealed against his sentence in the Supreme Court and was allowed bail until he was served a copy of the judgment by the TADA court, which sentenced him to six years rigorous imprisonment.
His lawyers contended that they could not argue his case in the absence of a copy of the judgment, which was originally to be served on Thursday.
Dutt's lawyers are hopeful that the documents might be given to him only by mid-October, which means he will stay out of jail for another month.
"We don't expect the judgment copy to be served until end-October," Dutt's lawyer Karan Singh told Reuters.
Once he is served the judgment copy, the actor is expected to be sent back to Pune's Yerwada jail, where he spent 22 days last month.
During his temporary reprieve, Dutt has been busy completing his movie contracts, with six movies in production and other commitments, which had been left half undone when he was sent to jail.
