New Delhi: Actor Sanjay Dutt has found his calling in jail. Dutt – lodged in Pune’s Yarwada jail – has chosen carpentry as part of his rigorous imprisonment sentence in connection with the 1993 Mumbai blasts case.
The actor, who chose to work on plastic and cane furniture over gardening, cooking, weaving, and other jobs, will have to spend several days on probation before being assigned a project.
Dutt will be paid for his labour according to the jail slabs. While an unskilled inmate is paid a daily wage of Rs 12.50; a semi-skilled worker gets Rs 17.50 and a highly skilled inmate is paid Rs 25.50.
Dutt's earnings will be paid to him as lump sum when he is released after serving his sentence.
He will also get a monthly allowance of Rs 1,500 rupees for buying toiletries.
Dutt was sentenced last week by the special TADA court for possession of an AK-56 rifle and a pistol ahead of the Mumbai blasts in 1993.
