New Delhi: Lady luck has smiled on Sanjay Dutt, twice over.

The TADA court on Thursday extended the actor’s bail to January 18 after already having given him a two-day extension on Tuesday.

The actor will have to surrender before the court by the assigned date along with Rusi Mullah, Zebunisa Kazi, Yusuf Nalwallah, Rubina Bhivandiwala, Keris Adjania, Imtiaz Ghawte and S N Thapa.

The quantum of sentence on all these accused is also likely to be announced in January.

On December 19, Dutt – who was convicted in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case on November 28 under the Arms Act for possessing a 9mm pistol and an AK-56 rifle - had moved an application seeking more time on various grounds to surrender till the case concludes or the final verdict is delivered or until such time the Court may permit.

He pleaded that he needed to make arrangements for his daughter Trishala`s education in the US.

Trishala is coming to India on December 23 and he said he needed to spend time with her.

Therefore, two days ago the court extended his bail till Thursday.

Dutt – who faces a prison term of five to 10 years – has said he would invoke the provisions of Section 4 of the Probation of Offenders Act at the time of making submissions on his quantum of sentence.

Under this provision, he can be released on bond on assurance of good conduct for a period not less than three years and his lawyers are likely to seek a pardon on the grounds of good behaviour.
