New Delhi: Jailed actor Sanjay Dutt will have to spend yet another day in Pune’s Yerawada Jail despite getting bail on Monday.
This is because the Supreme Court order giving him interim bail has still not reached the TADA court.
The Apex Court only gave a certified copy of the order to Sanjay's lawyers on late Tuesday evening. His advocates will now present the bail order before the TADA court on Wednesday.
Dutt will be let out of jail only when 1993 blasts case judge PD Kode signs a release order and forwards it to the Yerawada jail authorities.
So, in the age of Internet and digital signatures, Dutt has to still be behind bars even after getting bail.
The actor was given bail after Dutt's lawyers were able to convince the court that it was indeed unjust to be given a six-year jail term without being told why.
However, this relief is just temporary and it comes with a rider. The Chief Justice of India KG Balakrishnan said, “It is not possible for us to consider the nature of evidence against the accused in the absence of a copy of the judgment. But the moment the judgment is available they will have to surrender.”
The court also granted interim bail to five other convicts: Sameer Hingora, Aziz Ahmed Mohammad Ahmed Sheikh, Ibrahim Musa Chauhan alias Baba Chauhan, Yusuf Mohsin Nulwalla and Zaibunnisa Anwar Kazi.
