Kottayam: Little steps have helped him scale the heights of popularity, so much so that his name figures in the 2008 edition of the Guinness Book of World Records.
So why's he there right on top?
“I am the shortest hero leading an adult role in a movie,” says Ajaykumar 'Undapakru'.
At 2 feet 10 inches and 28 years, Ajaykumar better known as UndaPakru to the Malayalam film industry is not your regular hero.
It was a film called Albhuta Dweep, made in 2005 that celebrated his uniqueness. But the film retained all the elements of your everyday masala fare.
Such was the impact of the film that it won Pakru, a Kerala state award for his performance. Now the recognition from the Guinness Book is the latest feather in his cap.
“I first thank to God and the the director of the film Mr Vinayan. He bravely give me that role. At first I was unhappy about my character because there is fighting, horse riding and jumping but director Vinayan make me confident and I done a good job in that film.
“I never thought that he could enter into the Guinness Book of World Records, but I think some think it will happen because of with 300 dwarfs. This 2.5 feet man is the hero there is fighting, horse riding, jumping, romance, so I think that some one will accept my concept.
Every time we ignore these kind of people, in my mind I have some sentiments to them so I want to take the ability from the mind. They are totally disabled but they are differently able,” he says.
Pakru's talent has spread to neighbouring Tamil Nadu too, where he won a state award last year for his performance in the film Dishyum. Small in size he may be, but this Guinness book entrant's deeds are indeed tall.
