Itanagar: The northeastern state of Arunachal Pradesh is all set for their forthcoming Assembly polls.
However, when it comes to politics in Arunachal Pradesh, it’s all in the family.
Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu's brother's son, former Chief Minister Gegong Apang's son, and Congress President Nabam Tuki's cousin, everyone is in the poll fray this time.
Congress, President Nabam Tuki said, "It’s not exactly like that. Though some candidates have been chosen from among families based on winnability."
The BJP with not much of a foothold in the state is critical of the Congress plan.
General Secretary of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Tai Tagak said, "Congress has been a dynastic political party. So in Arunachal Pradesh they have started the same thing."
Meanwhile, Tepa Kagon, a Congress sympathiser for decades is least bothered by the presence of other parties in this election. His brother Babu, a sitting MLA, is contesting elections for the Congress.
"I am sure Sonia Gandhi's Congress will win," quipped Tepa Kagon.
Democracy in Arunachal Pradesh is not just following a trend of trying to keep everything within the family but also seems to be replicating an age old tradition of trying to pass on the baton to the next generation.
