New Delhi: The Met department has forecast an early onset of the monsoon this year. According to the department the southwest monsoons are expected to hit the mainland a week ahead and so people can probably bid an early goodbye to the heat and dust.
“According to the IMT, the onset of monsoon over Kerala will be between May 22 to May 30. Normal date is June 1,” says Weather Forecast, IMD, director Dr Medha Khole.
The monsoon has already set in over the Andaman seas and the southern Bay of Bengal on the expected date of May 20, something that last happened 10 years ago.
“Last time it happened in 1999,” adds Khole.
And while the wait for the rain gods continues, most parts of the country except Rajasthan and Gujarat are enjoying pre-monsoon showers.
