New Delhi: An earthquake hit Delhi and surrounding areas early this morning. The tremors were felt at 4:42 am.
The Meteorological Department says the earthquake measured 4.3 on the Richter scale.
"Delhi and nearby areas witness slight intensity earthquake of magnitude 4.3 in the early hours on Monday at 4.42 AM with its epicentre near Delhi-Haryana border. It is grouped as a slight intensity earthquake and of course it did not cause any damage. However, it is widely felt in adjacent regions of Delhi like Haryana, Gurgaon and Noida,” says RS Duttatreyam, Director, Seismology department.
The epicentre of the quake was near Bahadurgarh on the Delhi-Haryana border.
The tremors were felt in Meerut, Noida, Faridabad and Gurgaon.
People ran out of their homes in Delhi and Meerut as the quake hit.
There are no immediate reports of casualties or damage to property.
