New Delhi: A gripping semi-final of the 28th Peerless Federation Cup at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata saw home heroes East Bengal being ousted by Dempo by a solitary goal on Saturday.

It was the timely boot of Brazilian Ranti Martins which got the Goan club the winner in the 87th minute off a rebound against the run of play, after Dempo counter-attacked.

It was another Brazilian Beto who slammed the ball straight into East Bengal goalkeeper Nasim Akhtar's hands who fumbled it, handing Martins to slot home the winner.

Four-time champions East Bengal were guilty of missing scores of chances in the first half as well as in the second, and paid a heavy price with just four minutes left for the game to go into extra-time.

Dempo play the winnner of the clash between Churchill Brothers and Mohun Bagan on Sunday.
