New Delhi: In an exclusive interview to CNN-IBN, Election Commissioner SY Qureshi said that the Government is working on suggestions that the assembly polls in Maharashtra, Haryana and aruna Pradesh should be held in mid-October.
He also said that the counting of votes will take place within a week after that.
Speaking on the postponement of polls in Arunachal Pradesh, Qureshi said, "The reason for postponing was that the booths are very far off. Sometimes there is a repoll, once, twice, thrice. So, it will take some time."
"But the other logic is that Maharashtra and Haryana will not have an impact on Arunachal Pradesh. Why delay the whole thing?"
Answering a query on the probable dates of the polls, Qureshi said, "Obviously, there are suggestions that it should be before Diwali, so that the gap between polling and counting is minimum. Minimum two to three days are required, normally. 15th or 16th (October) is the probable date. We will also go to Maharashtra and then decide. "
