EC team heads to J-K to assess situation

CNN-IBN

Srinagar: The situation is improving in Jammu and Kashmir.

A three-member Election Commission team is visiting Jammu and Kashmir from Tuesday.

It will assess the situation there before deciding on a date for the assembly polls.

The Election commission team will be meeting senior civil and police officials as well as leaders of political parties during the two-day visit.

Sources say the EC may announce the dates of the Assembly elections by the weekend.

Meanwhile, the curfew in the valley has been lifted. The curfew was imposed on Saturday ahead of a march to Lal Chowk by separatists.

The state government says the curfew was lifted after reviewing the security situation in the valley.

Hurriyat has now planned to meet on Wednesday to discuss their strategy to push for independence.
