The state-run Electronics Corporation of India Ltd (ECIL) on Friday flagged off a consignment containing antenna system for the Bharti Station in Antarctica.

The equipment has to perform under severe climatic conditions, like subzero temperature below minus 40°C and 250 kmph of wind speed.

According to the Hyderabad- based public sector enterprise, the installation will be carried out by its engineers during the ensuing summer season in Antarctica, from Dec’12 to March, 2013.
