Used mineral water bottles can make flowers, used tyres can make wreaths and you can make an eco-friendly Christmas, all this at Marthoma church in Bangalore, which is making a difference even in these times of recession.
“We're living in a world where useful things are not having a place, if we bring those things we already used, if we give a new perspective, a new idea, it can be useful and more attractive to the people,” says priest, Marthoma Syrian Church, Father K Y Jacob.
And so you have old newspapers painted bright to make bows, while used CDs add sheen and shredded paper collected from printing presses to make up the X-mas spirit - visitors from other parts of the city too come in everyday to take home this message.
“We also want to give a nice little spiritual message about recycling. It is all about recycling. Its all about recycling old ties, old relations. The strained relations between a husband and wife, maybe the strained relations between grown children who do not bother about their parents back home,” says a church member. .
Parishioners who've put it together by collecting these materials for the past few months say they're opening up their church for visitors to take a look for the until the new year dawns.
