New Delhi: The Government has taken a big step towards cutting down exam stress for class X students.
Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister on Monday announced that grading system will be introduced in all Central Board of Secondary Examination (CBSE) affiliated schools from the next academic year.
So, now promotion to class XI will be a stress-free for class X students.
State Boards will however wait till the year after. They will examine the CBSE experience and then make the changes.
“A historic state-Centre consensus was achieved in implementing the reforms,” said Sibal.
The HRD Minister’s meeting with state education ministers was extended by several hours.
The state ministers reportedly agreed in principle with optional exams at class X and also agreed to introduce grading system in schools.
They also expressed their concern about the finances to make Right to Education a success and pointed out that the country needs 20 lakh new school teachers.
Sibal is making a major concession. He has agreed that he would reduce political interference in the appointment of vice chancellors of Central universities.
