Eight convicted in Kandhamal riot case

Phulbani: A local court on Saturday sentenced eight persons to three years imprisonment for setting fire to houses belonging to minority community people during the Kandhamal riot in 2008.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 on each of the eight persons.

The judgement was pronounced by fast track court-I judge SK Das while disposing of a case relating to case of arson at Megubali village under Daringbadi police station.

Of the total 24 persons accused in the case, 16 people were acquitted due to lack of evidence.
