Thrissur/Thiruvananthapuram: A two-year-old is making an entire film crew dance to its whims and fancies in Kerala's jungles adjoining Thrissur and Thiruvananthapuram.
He is a baby elephant and he is on an acting assignment. Little Mahadevan plays Guruvayoor Kesavan, the most famous temple elephants of Kerala. But Mahadevan is a very mischieveous baby elephant and keeps doing pretty much what pleases him. His mahout, Prakasan keeps him in check though, or else it would have been tough to get work done.
"He comes before the camera for the first time and he is so hansful. Its such a tiresome work to get Mahadevan act before the camera," said Prakasan.
But all that effort is paying off. The television serial which is aired on prime time on a local TV channel is already a huge hit. The little elephant is now a superstar of sorts, stealing the limelight even from the boy who plays young Krishna.
"Doing the role of Lord Krishna is a great honour and I am so happy to do it. But I am really scared of Mahadevan. He is so naughty and unpredictable," said Nandan, the child actor who gets to ride and be friends with Mahadevan.
The legendary Guruvayur Kesavan has been characterised in books and films earlier but it is for the first time that he is on daily prime time television.
And true blue Malayalees just cannot get enough of it.
