New Delhi: Amid growing incidents of crimes against women, an emergency alert service helpline number 55100 was launched on Thursday in Delhi to facilitate sending of alerts to family and friends of a caller, a service provider said.
"During an emergency, like sudden car breakdown or any untoward incident, a person can send an alert by typing 'HELP' and sending an SMS to 55100. Thereafter, a recorded voice message and an SMS will be flashed to a pre-defined list of 10 numbers with location details of the person in trouble. This works even if the balance in the person's phone is zero," said Sunjyiev Mahajan, cheif commercial officer, TBM Technologies Pvt Ltd.
"The emergency alert service can be accessed from any mobile phone and a person needs to dial 55100 to subscribe to it," he said.
