New Delhi: A family of three and a 40-year-old woman were killed by their servants in Delhi a few days ago.
One killed because he says he was treated badly and the other strangulated her employer because she didn't like the maid talking to a neighborhood boy.
“What goes on in many of their minds is perceived humiliation and being treated as a victim,” said clinical psychologist, Rajat Mitra.
A16-year-old became famous two years ago for kidnapping her employer's child from East Delhi.
After serving a jail sentence, she is now working with a social organization. Anita, as she calls herself today, says her employers constantly abused her.
Unable to take it anymore, she ran away with the child. Anita says she did it without thinking. Others say, it was an act of revenge.
“They (domestic help) are not treated better than slaves,” said Mitra.
But most victims of abuse remain helpless. When CNN-IBN met 11-year-old Beena and eight-year-old Geeta a few months ago, they had just run away from their employers who physically abused them.
Their bodies were covered with scars and Beena even complained of sexual abuse.
"The man would behave badly with me all the time. He would touch me and hurt me. When I protested he would lock me up in a room,” she said.
Abuse, torture and exploitation of servants is not new. The relationship between employers and their servants is rarely one of mutual trust.
And now murders in the Capital have made the equation between the two even more shaky.
