New Delhi: The glittering city of lights that has inspired cult classics all over the world is now the centre of the latest Bhatt film Awarapan.
Shot in Hong Kong in a start to finish schedule, Awarapan veers into the murky Pan Asian trade of human trafficking.
Says producer, Mukesh Bhatt, “It’s got the angle of human trafficking. It's not just a love story, we are trying to focus on how this is a huge problem in SAARC countries.”
Apart from the trafficking angle, Awarapan as the title suggests, is also a story of a lonely man who finds love in strange circumstances.
The film has cast Bhatt camp favourite Emraan Hashmi opposite relative newcomer Shreya.
Says Emran, "Its about how this one man's loneliness follows him around even up to Hong Kong.”
“The basic theme of the film is how Emran’s character rescues a girl who is trapped in Hong Kong,” says director, Mohit Suri.
With their last release Woh Lamhe not raking in the money, both Mukesh Bhatt and Mohit Suri have a few crores and lots of hope riding on this film.
With a hummable soundtrack and a newsy subject driving the script, Awarapan could have a fairly decent chance at the box office. The film releases on June 29.
