Lucknow: The Allahabad High Court on Tuesday turned down a plea to stay the arrest of Vibha Tiwari, a co-accused with her arrested lawmaker husband Shekhar in lynching of an Uttar Pradesh engineer last November.
Vibha Tiwari has been absconding ever since the police went on her trail for allegedly destroying evidences at the guest house in Auraiya where Manoj Kumar Gupta was tortured to death by the ruling Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) legislator and his henchmen.
The court directed the state police to expedite the investigations in the case and asked a lower court to complete the trial within six months.
On January 3, 2009 BSP MLA Shekhar Tiwari and nine other accused were chargesheeted in the sensational killing of PWD engineer in Auraiya with UP Police claiming that the victim had earned the legislator's ire after he refused to give him money and clear the bills of contractors close to him.
