Tihar inmates gst more TV sets, viewing hours

New Delhi: Inmates of the Tihar jail in the capital have a reason to rejoice this Diwali.

Asia’s largest prison will have over 300 television sets for its inmates and their viewing time has gone up by two hours.

“They have all welcomed it and they consider it as a Diwali gift for themselves,” said Sunil Kumar, the Public Relations Officer of the jail.

One of the inmates said, “I get to know different news or the different perspectives of the same piece of news.”

Another added, “What you love most, you get to watch. I am crazy about sports, especially cricket and I can now watch it. I have lots of options open now."

There is also a choice of movie-on-demand.

A Bollywood fan who is an inmate felt delighted too. “I love watching Akshay Kumar films. Now I can do that," he said.

There are 18 channels to choose from as opposed to the four available earlier.

The 11,000 inmates are simply delighted during this festive season.
