Epic Movie: A ridiculously unfunny comedy

Direction: Jason Friedberg, Aaron Seltzer

Just months after you saw him play Gogol, the immigrant who goes back in search of his roots in Mira Nair’s The Namesake, Indian-American actor Kal Penn is back on screen, but this time in the ridiculously unfunny comedy Epic Movie that’s come to our multiplexes this week.

The film’s meant to be a spoof on all the recent blockbuster films from Hollywood, but it’s such a load of rubbish, I defy even the bravest of you to sit through this entire film.

Now good spoofs can be great fun, and if you want to see a really good spoof film see Scary Movie or see the Austin Powers films.

Don’t forget, the trick to doing a good spoof, is clever writing. But believe me there’s absolutely nothing clever about Epic Movie.

Almost every second joke in this film involves urination, or vomiting, or farting, or exploding pimples – and I don’t know about you, but those things just aren’t funny to me. I’m not even going to attempt to explain the plot of this film because there is none.

It’s just a bunch of asinine jokes that have been strung together, and it involves actors who’re playing popular characters from films like The Da Vinci Code, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, X-Men, Pirates of the Caribbean, Harry Potter, The Chronicles of Narnia, and Snakes on a Plane among others.

The fact that a film like this can even get made just goes to prove that there are stupid people everywhere in the world.

Stupid people who wrote this film, stupid people who financed it, stupid people who will go watch this film, and the stupidest of them all are the people who might actually enjoy it.

Coming back to Kal Penn, I cannot imagine why he or any of the other actors in this film would agree to be a part of it. It’s the kind of film that twenty years from now they will want erased from their resumes and their memories.

It’s probably unfair to compare everything that Kal Penn does in the future to his performance in The Namesake, but watching him in this film playing a character whose testicles are cut off and put in a candy bar, I have to ask, what was he thinking?

Of course I’m going with zero out of five for the Hollywood film Epic Movie – it’s just a waste of time, money and patience. Anyone who finds this film even remotely funny should get their heads checked immediately.

Rating: 0 / 5 (Such Trash!)
