MADURAI: Governor K Rosaiah has appointed Prof Kalyani Mathivanan as Vice Chancellor of the Madurai Kamaraj University on Saturday.
Kalyani, Head of the English Department (Aided and Self Supporting) of Ethiraj College for Women, would assume charge in a few days. The university has been functioning without a VC since April 19, 2011, after R Karpaga Kumaravel demitted office. Kalyani, daughter of late MDK Kuthalingam, the former V-C of the MKU and the daughter-in-law of late AIADMK leader and former Finance Minister V R Nedunchezhiyan, has got a tough job to handle.
The University has to get an extension under the University for Potential for Excellence from the UGC. The accreditation from National Assessment and Accreditation Council also needs to be renewed. She graduated from the Maharaja’s college Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala University and completed her post graduation in the Ethiraj College for Women. She received her doctoral and post doctoral degrees from the Madras University and was honoured as the first D Litt in English from the University. Kalyani has more than 30 years of teaching and research experience at the Ethiraj College for Women.
