Chandigarh: "Congratulations India… Singh is King!" This is the text message that was doing the rounds in Punjab and elsewhere minutes after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh pulled off a decisive win in the trust vote in Lok Sabha on Tuesday evening.

The SMS message conveyed the feeling of euphoria among the UPA supporters.

Celebrations broke out in Amritsar, Punjab, and other places in the state after Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee announced that the UPA Government has the support of 275 MPs compared to 256 against.

Congress workers burst crackers and sweets were distributed in different places in Punjab.

The Prime Minister's relatives, who live in Amritsar and Ludhiana, organised religious prayers this week for the survival of his Government.

However, Punjab's ruling Akali Dal flatly refused to support the Prime Minister, saying he had done nothing for Sikhs and Punjab despite belonging to the community and the state.

Manmohan Singh is the first Sikh Prime Minister of the country.
