Tividale (United Kingdom): The largest Hindu temple in Europe is to open near Birmingham in the United Kingdom.
A five-day ritual is set to begin this weekend to inaugurate the Sri Venkateshwara (Balaji) temple at Tividale and the workers are busy giving finishing touches to it.
Fifteen priests have been flown in from India for the rituals to sanctify the temple and over 10, 000 devotees expected to visit Tividale at the grand opening.
The culmination of the event will be the installation of a four-metre deity of Lord Krishna.
"Other faiths will be welcomed here, even though they may not have a temple to worship in, they will be welcome to see and take part in our prayers or whatever we are doing," says Chairman of trustees, Dr VP Narayan Rao.
"In our landscaped places, there are seven hills, each one dedicated to another faith which is practiced in this country," he adds.
Some of the best sculptors from India are there to create the ornamental pillars of the structure designed on the lines of the Tirupati-Tirumala temple in India.
Interestingly, the temple has been built on the site of a former rubbish dump which was donated by the local council in 1987
It has been funded by donations from devotees and with a grant from the charitable Millennium Commission. Over £ 6 million have been spent to build the temple.
